The Authentic Train Race Experience
A mere nine miles (fifteen kilometres) from the Heidelberg Station, relive the original 1930 train race experience by driving for half a mile alongside the Rovos Rail steam train. Not a race at all, but trundling with the train on the gravel road alongside the railway line.

The Authentic Train Race Experience
Perfect for prewar cars and motorcycles because they will be in their natural habitat. Postwar vehicles welcome too (up to 1980 – the cutoff date for The Great Train Race).
This graded road would have been considered “good” in the 1930s but by today's standards is crude and bumpy. If it has not recently rained, a water tanker will be deployed on the morning of the Authentic Train Race Experience to ameliorate dust.
Photographic Opportunities
Photographers and videographers available to capture stunning sunrise and scenic photos along the route.
Historic Atmosphere
Relive the charm of pre-war vehicles in a unique natural setting.
Secure Roads
Enjoy a safe and secure ride through Spaarwater, Gauteng
Community Spirit
Participate in a bring-and-braai event with fellow vintage enthusiasts.

Very Important Information
Noise Levels:
Ensure your vintage machine complies with acceptable noise levels. Contact the organizers if your machine is notably noisy for an appraisal. Excessive noise could jeopardize future events.
Oil Leaks:
Machines with dripping oil leaks are not permitted. The Reserve’s roads are pristine, and maintaining this is critical for future events.
Safety:
Drive or ride safely. Overtaking is not allowed. The convoy will maintain a speed of 35 to 40km/h to enjoy the experience and ensure safety.
Steep Inclines & Declines
Some of the inclines and declines are pretty steep – hence “vintage challenge”. A test of the mettle of man and machine alike. No loose chains or slipping clutches!
